"Falls" has become the first cause of death among the elderly over 65 years old in China due to injury. During the "Health Publicity Week for the Elderly" launched by the National Health Commission, the "National Health Communication and Promotion Action for the Elderly 2019 (Respecting the Elderly and Filial Piety, Preventing Falls, and Keeping Family at ease)" project, which was guided by the Department of Health for the Elderly of the National Health Commission and hosted by the Chinese Gerontology and Gerontology Society, was launched on the 11th. Seven institutions, including the Aging Communication Branch of the Chinese Gerontology and Geriatrics Society and the Chronic Disease Center of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, jointly issued the Joint Tips for the Elderly to Prevent Falls (hereinafter referred to as the "Tips"), calling on the whole society to make efforts to strengthen the personal awareness of the elderly, promote the aging reform for the elderly at home, and pay attention to the serious threat of falls to the health and life of the elderly.

Falls are a serious threat to the health of the elderly. The main cause of traumatic fracture in the elderly is falls. More than half of the elderly who come to medical institutions every year due to injuries are caused by falls. At the same time, the older the elderly, the higher the risk of injury or death due to falls. Falls in the elderly are related to aging, disease, environment and other factors. The decline of gait stability, visual and auditory function, muscle strength, bone degradation, balance function, nervous system diseases, eye diseases, bone and joint diseases, psychological and cognitive diseases, and the discomfort of the home environment may increase the risk of falls.  It is suggested that falls can be prevented and controlled. It is an effective way to prevent falls to improve health awareness, understand health knowledge, actively carry out scientific exercise, develop good habits, eliminate the risk of falls in the environment, and properly use auxiliary tools. Exercise can enhance flexibility and balance, which is very important for the elderly. At the same time, the word "slow" is advocated in the daily life of the elderly. Turn around and turn your head slowly, get up and out of bed slowly, and move and go out slowly. If the old man falls down accidentally, he must not get up in a hurry to prevent more serious secondary injury. In particular, it should be reminded that when the elderly fall, whether injured or not, they should inform their families or doctors in time.

In the Opinions on Promoting the Development of Elderly Care Services issued by the General Office of the State Council, it is proposed to promote the construction of elderly care service infrastructure, including the implementation of the project of elderly home adaptation. The tips released this time also emphasize that the home is the place where the elderly fall most frequently, and the aging home environment can effectively reduce the probability of elderly falls at home. The aging transformation of home comfort usually includes: placing handrails in stairs, corridors and other places; Eliminate the height difference between threshold and ground; Add shoes changing stool with suitable height and handrail; Replace the slippery ground with anti-skid materials; The safe and stable bathing chair shall be selected, and the sitting posture shall be adopted for bathing; Add handrails near shower area and toilet; Add induction lamps in common corridors from bedroom to bathroom; Select a bed with appropriate height, and set a table lamp that is easy to reach beside the bed. At the same time, the home aging transformation can be evaluated and implemented by professional institutions.
