What is a Wheeled Walker?

Wheeled walker, dual-arm operated walker with wheels, handle and feet for support. One is that the front two feet each have a wheel, and the rear two feet have a shelf with a rubber sleeve as a brake, also known as a rolling walker. There are several variants, some with carrying baskets; some with only three legs, but all with wheels; and some with handbrakes.

(1) Type and structure

Wheeled walkers can be divided into two-wheeled, three-wheeled and four-wheeled types; they can have various forms such as hand brakes and other auxiliary support functions.

The two-wheel walker is easier to operate than the standard walker. It is pushed by the user and can move forward continuously. The front wheel is fixed, the wheels only roll forward or backward, the direction is good, but the turning is not flexible enough.

The four-wheel walker is flexible in operation and can be divided into two forms: the four wheels can be rotated, the front wheel can be rotated, and the rear wheel can be fixed in position.

(2) Indications

It is suitable for patients with lower extremity dysfunction and unable to lift the walking frame for walking.

1. The front wheel-type walking frame does not require the patient to remember any specific walking mode during use, and does not require the strength and balance that must be possessed by lifting the frame during application. Therefore, the walking frame cannot be used if it is required. Those without wheels can be used. Although useful for the frail elderly and people with spina bifida, it must have a larger space for it to be used freely.

2. The three-wheeled wheeled walker also has wheels at the back, so there is no need to lift the bracket during walking, and the walker never leaves the ground when walking. Due to the small frictional resistance of the wheels, it is easy to move. However, the patient is required to have the ability to control the handbrake.

With casters, the walker never leaves the ground when walking. Due to the small frictional resistance of the wheels, it is easy to move. It is suitable for users who have lower limb dysfunction and cannot lift the walking frame to move forward; but its stability is slightly worse. Among them, it is divided into two-wheeled, three-wheeled, and four-wheeled; it can have various forms with seat, handbrake, and other auxiliary support functions.

Elderly people should choose a walker that suits them according to their own situation. You can also use crutches, pay attention to the safety of the elderly, and master the safety knowledge of the elderly.
